  Superintendent Brent Jaco Headshot

Brent H. Jaco
Superintendent of Schools

Mr. Brent H. Jaco joined Pecos-Barstow-Toyah ISD as Superintendent of Schools in July of 2020. During his time here at PBTISD, Mr. Jaco has wasted no time in getting to work on improving and revamping the district through academics and finance. Under the guidance of Mr. Jaco, PBTISD passed its largest bond to date in May 2021. With the bond, PBTISD was able to establish the first phases in a long-range plan to bring the district into the 21st century.

The 2021 Bond will bring two new elementary campuses, the first school campuses to be built in over 45 years! A new facility for the Maintenance, Child Nutrition, and Technology departments. Additionally, a new state-of-the-art Career & Technology Education and Science Wing for Pecos High School. However, Mr. Jaco always says this could not have been done without the voters of the PBTISD community!

Prior to joining PBTISD,  Mr. Jaco has had a history of providing supportive and transformational leadership throughout his career. He has been a leader in education for more than two decades and has risen the ranks from athletic trainer to educator to athletic director to assistant principal to principal to a top-level district administrator.

As a principal, he served at a middle-level campus of 925 students and led them to TEA Distinctions during the transition of the new STAAR testing. Looking to enhance his leadership training, Mr. Jaco served as the Associate Executive Director for the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP), an organization that works to ensure that campus administrators serve as courageous transformative leaders and a unifying voice for all learners. While at TASSP, Mr. Jaco led significant changes in the business operations to streamline practices and better serve their customers.

In 2018, recruited for his strong organizational management skills, Mr. Jaco joined the cabinet at Brazosport Independent School District as Chief of Staff and Governmental Affairs Officer in Clute, TX. As Chief of Staff and Governmental Affairs Officer, Mr. Jaco worked hand-in-hand with the superintendent in leading academic improvement across the district, the passage of bond elections, and building relationships and partnerships across the community.

Mr. Jaco possesses a Masters’ in Business Administration with a focus on Organizational Leadership from Ashford University and an undergraduate degree from the University of Houston. Before starting his career in education, he honorably served our country as a United States Naval Officer from 1994 – 1998. Mr. Jaco is also active in the community, currently serving as a Rotarian, member of the West of the Pecos Rodeo Committee, and the Knights of Columbus.

Additionally, Mr. Jaco is a champion of communicative transparency with the community. If you would like to contact Mr. Jaco you can email him at [email protected], contact his administrative assistant Tracy Shaw, or complete our official PBTISD Just Ask form.
