At the March regular board meeting, the PBTISD Board of Trustees approved the Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) for the new Pecos High School Career Technology Education (CTE) & Science Facility. With this approval, construction will begin in the coming weeks, and the facility is scheduled to open in August 2024.
This is one of the final projects of the May 2021 Bond to begin construction. The design process of the campus started in June 2022 and included a collaborative process of administration and teachers working with VLK Architects. Very similar to the two elementary school projects, the space was designed by those using the facility daily. The facility will be state-of-the-art and include the following:
- Cosmetology salon
- Veterinary/animal science lab
- Health sciences and EMT lab
- Culinary studio and bistro
- Trade shops for auto mechanics, welding, and construction
- Robotics and drone makers space & lab
- Multi-media lab
- Science classrooms and labs
- Student collaborative learning spaces
“We are very excited to begin construction on this facility,” said Superintendent Brent Jaco. “This project has been in development for nearly two years and will be a state-of-the-art facility where our students will be able to develop knowledge and skills to carry them beyond high school. As with all the 2021 Bond projects, this facility was needed to support our students and their learning; thank you to the community for approving the 2021 Bond.”
Due to inflation and increases in the prices of construction materials, the facility has come in over the budgeted amount made in 2021. However, through cost-savings, effective fiscal management of the 2021 bond dollars, and the use of grants that have been awarded, the district can complete the facility within the overall budget of the 2021 Bond. The overall GMP for the new Pecos High School CTE facility is $40,912,381.00.
Groundbreaking is scheduled for April 13, 2023, and the facility is projected to open in August 2024.
