On Thursday morning, July 21, PBTISD will officially re-open the Crockett Middle School track and field for public use. The track and field have been closed to the public since January as the Crocket M.S. field was converted to an astroturf surface and the track was resurfaced.

PBTISD contracted with Hellas Construction to complete the conversion. Hellas contracts with major universities and NFL teams across the nation, fulfilling their turf field needs. Hellas is known for its use of “eco-therm” filling. Eco-therm is a sustainable infill that is made of recycled materials. With the use of the Eco-therm filling, the turf's surface will be 20-30 degrees more cooling than with traditional filling.

“PBTISD wanted only the best for our Eagles when converting the CMS Field,” said Superintendent Brent Jaco. “We are excited to have this outstanding field and track for our students. As the district has done in the past, the facility will be shared with the Pecos community. We hope everyone that uses this facility enjoys and respects the area.”

The CMS Field will be equipped with a turn-style gate as the main entrance to the facility during public hours.

PBTISD asks that the public respect the following guidelines when utilizing the field:

  • No bicycles, skateboards, skates, rollerblades, strollers, or any other type of wheeled vehicle allowed.
  • No gum, tobacco, sunflower seeds, and other food products are prohibited on the field.
  • No dogs or other animals are permitted.
  • Use of metal cleats is prohibited, except for track spikes. Plastic cleats only.
  • No golfing.
  • No glass bottles or containers.

No drinks are allowed on the field except plastic water bottles.

The field will be open to the public except during school hours, athletic practices, and/or school-scheduled events.
