Watch below to see what the new campus will look like!

At the March regular board meeting, the PBTISD Board of Trustees approved the second package for the Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) for the new Pre-K-1 campus. This is the final package needed to begin mobilization for the construction of the new campus.

The campus is the next construction project to begin with funds from the 2021 bond. It will include a 1,000-foot drop-off lane to ease traffic in the area, a STREAM, music, and art rooms, focused learning nooks, and collaborative learning steps. Additionally, the library/media center will be the core of the campus, so it is accessible to all students throughout the school day.

“The Board have been long supporters of the new campuses coming to PBTISD,” said Board President Criselda Carrasco. “We are so excited to finally get some dirt moving and new facilities our students and staff definitely deserve!”

The design of the campus started in June 2021 and included a collaborative process of community members, administration, teachers, coaches, paraprofessionals, and students working with VLK Architects.

“In designing the building, something the cohort really wanted to emphasize was the library being the center of everything,” said Chief Academic Officer Dr. Karen Matt. “It will encourage literacy to all students and give them the courage to explore the world through reading.”

The campus will also have a familiar face to community members at its entrance. The pillar entryway of Pecos Elementary will be extracted and placed inside the main security vestibule and provide an entrance to the main hallway of the campus.

“We wanted to find a way to incorporate the district's rich history into these new campuses,” said Superintendent Brent Jaco. “It was very important to us to preserve and pay oath to schools that so many Pecos people attended. We are excited to keep a piece of that history in this new campus.”

Pre-construction phases have already begun on-site, with a groundbreaking scheduled for April 20. The campus is expected to open for the first day of school in August 2023.
